Non-Uniform (Casual) Dress Code

Dickson Preparatory STEAM Academy’s dress code is intended to support a safe, respectful, and
learning-focused environment by minimizing distractions and promoting appropriate school attire.

Students may dress and groom in a manner of their choosing, provided their attire does not disrupt the
educational process, compromise health or safety, or violate the expectations outlined below. Students
are expected to maintain standards of cleanliness, safety, and respect for themselves and others.

These expectations apply throughout the school day and during all school-sponsored activities, including
before and after school and on field trips, unless families are notified in advance of an approved
exception.

Students who do not comply with the dress code will be asked to change their clothing or to contact a
parent or guardian to provide appropriate attire. Repeated or willful violations may result in disciplinary
action.

The following attire is not permitted:

Outerwear and Head Coverings
● Hooded sweatshirts may be worn; however, hoods may not be worn over the head inside the
building. Oversized hooded garments may be restricted at the administration's discretion.
● Coats, jackets, gloves, scarves, and other outdoor outerwear may not be worn during the school
day unless authorized.
● Hats, bandanas, do-rags, sweatbands, bonnets, scarves, and other non-religious head coverings
may not be worn in the building unless approved for medical, religious, or school-authorized
purposes.

Pants, Shorts, Skirts, and Dresses
● Pants must be worn at the waist and may not expose underwear or undergarments.
● Clothing that is excessively tight, transparent, or that reveals the midriff, undergarments, or
excessive skin is prohibited.
● Spandex-style garments may not be worn as standalone pants unless covered by
appropriate-length clothing, as determined by school guidelines.
● Ripped pants or distressed clothing that exposes skin is not permitted.
● Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be at least fingertip length.
Shirts and Tops
● Tube tops, halter tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, and tops exposing the midriff, chest, or
shoulders are not permitted.

Footwear
● Students must wear appropriate footwear at all times.
● Flip-flops, slides, slippers, and split-toe sandals are not permitted.
● Footwear must have a secure heel and be safe for school activities.

Accessories and Prohibited Items
● Clothing, jewelry, or accessories displaying profanity, obscene language, weapons, illegal
substances, or messages promoting unsafe or disruptive behavior are prohibited.
● Accessories that pose a safety concern or disrupt the learning environment, including spiked
jewelry or chains, are not permitted.
● Sunglasses may not be worn inside the building unless medically necessary.
● Students should limit the use of accessories that may become distracting during instruction.
School administration will address excessive or disruptive accessories on a case-by-case basis.

Other Prohibited Attire
● Pajamas or sleepwear are not permitted.
● Balaclavas, ski masks, or similar face-covering headgear that covers all or part of the face,
including garments designed to conceal the eyes, mouth, or portions of the face, are prohibited
on school property and at school-sponsored events, unless required for an approved medical,
religious, or school-authorized purpose.
● Clothing deemed unsafe, disruptive, or inconsistent with the school environment may be
addressed by the administration.

Administrative Review
Because individual situations may vary, the school administration reserves the right to determine
whether specific attire complies with the dress code's intent and may require modifications as needed to
maintain a safe and appropriate educational environment.
